{"id":4,"date":"2013-03-03T21:56:25","date_gmt":"2013-03-03T21:56:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/findooley.com\/?page_id=4"},"modified":"2013-03-11T12:46:32","modified_gmt":"2013-03-11T12:46:32","slug":"story-list","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/findooley.com\/?page_id=4","title":{"rendered":"Story List"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Does your drama class need a shake up?<\/h2>\n<p><strong><em>Let stir the imaginations<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In Hamlet, the grave diggers&#8217; spoke with a barrister\u2019s skull.<br \/>\nI have used skulls of bear, buffalo, and horse to loosen the tongues of<br \/>\nstudents. The stories I tell lend themselves to on the spot role playing<br \/>\nand student interviews of each other, giving voices to the persons and<br \/>\neven the animals we have just talked about in one or all of the four stories<br \/>\nI describe below.<\/p>\n<p>I focus on the opportunities these four stories listed below. I use Eyes<br \/>\non the Maps, Hands on the Artifacts and Sculptures to introduce Story<br \/>\nTelling. For example the 4th Grade\u2019s curriculum covers Wisconsin\u2019s<br \/>\nPeoples, especially Native America. The 5th Grade\u2019s curriculum covers<br \/>\nthe Western Expansion. The other grades all consider Environmental Science.<\/p>\n<p>Paintings such as those of Charles Russell, photographs such as those<br \/>\nof Edward Curtis, and maps are always part of my work. Maps of Wisconsin<br \/>\nare an important in the story of Black Hawk\u2019s Run from Abe Lincoln<br \/>\nand the Illinois Volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>I tell first person accounts of my moments with the Lakota Buffalo Hunters,<br \/>\nthe Ojibwe Fishers, Hunters and Trappers; and the Makah Whale Hunters.<br \/>\nMy sculptures focus attention and are connections which snare the less<br \/>\ninattentive and stir student questions. See attached images of my finished<br \/>\nBuffalo Runner, Spawning Salmon.<\/p>\n<table style=\"border: 1px solid #000000;\" width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\"><em><strong>Black Hawk\u2019s Run<br \/>\nfrom Abe Lincoln and the Illinois Volunteers<\/strong><\/em>This discussion traces the unsuccessful escape route thru southwest<br \/>\nWisconsin from Milton\/Ft Atkinson west to disaster at the Bad Ax<br \/>\nRiver South of La Crosse. His remnant peoples now reside on small<br \/>\nreservations in Oklahoma and Kansas.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table style=\"border: 1px solid #000000;\" width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\"><strong><em>Treaty Rights of the Chippewa:<br \/>\nFishing with Traps and Spears <\/em><\/strong>This discussion covers the recent federal cases US Constitution,<br \/>\nthe four mid 1800\u2019s cessions of these tribes which nevertheless<br \/>\nare still entitled under federal law to hunt and fish on ceded lands<br \/>\nin Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. The Chippewa lands are located<br \/>\nin all three states and Canada. This discussion covers dams and<br \/>\nrestoration of wild rice habitats.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table style=\"border: 1px solid #000000;\" width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\"><strong><em>The Last Lakota Ceremonial<br \/>\nBuffalo Hunt <\/em><\/strong>This is the story of the hunt conducted in 1882 while Sitting Bull<br \/>\nwas in jail. I grew up finding the arrow heads and skulls of that<br \/>\nhunt in which 3000 Lakota killed 5000 buffalo. I lived and breathed<br \/>\nthat story on and off for 55 years. I grew up tagging along with<br \/>\nmy father who hunted in the middle of the hunt site. This is the<br \/>\nstory is behind my sculpture and the race horse event which nearly<br \/>\nkilled me. See the attached image of my completed sculpture. The<br \/>\nLakota were my law office clients.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table style=\"border: 1px solid #000000;\" width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\"><em><strong>The Makah Whalers Resumption<br \/>\nof Traditional Hunting <\/strong><\/em>This discussion covers the 1990\u2019s treaty rights cases involving<br \/>\nthe Makah and Greenpeace on one side (yes, as allies) and the Shepards<br \/>\nof the Seas on the other. After 78 years of voluntary cessation,<br \/>\nthe Mahah who first perceived the danger of extinction of the Grey<br \/>\nwhales, agreed with the scientists.Because the grey whale populations have recovered, 100 now died<br \/>\nevery year from old age and ship propeller\u2019s strikes, the<br \/>\nMakah agreed to resume Treaty Rights Whaling. The resumption was<br \/>\nwidely covered by media, the International Whaling Commission, and<br \/>\nthe US Fish and Wild Life. My personal connection is that I was<br \/>\ninvited to catch the five species of wild Pacific Salmon with one<br \/>\nof the Makah High School boys who paddled the traditional canoe<br \/>\nwhen the Makah killed a 30 ton whale.<\/p>\n<p>The Makah\u2019s tribal story teller his grandmother, welcomed<br \/>\nus into her living room and fed us while she told the stories of<br \/>\ntheir ancient people.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>So my dear teachers and my betters, I have decided to reactive my law<br \/>\nlicense, tell stories and engage the youth in discovery and preservation<br \/>\nof Aboriginal Cultures and the environment.<\/p>\n<p>I strongly prefer to base my presentations on your students\u2019 background<br \/>\nknowledge and align my work with your lessons, WI-DPI Standards and MPS<br \/>\nLearning Targets.<\/p>\n<p>My rate is negotiable, based upon number of presentations, set up time<br \/>\nand travel.<\/p>\n<p>Brother Finney D<\/p>\n<p>1-414-731-0520<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Does your drama class need a shake up?
